Farewell to Malcolm Towell – A True Uffington Legend

13 September 2025 | News

The village of Uffington came together on Tuesday 5th August to say a fond farewell to one of its most cherished residents, Malcolm Towell. His funeral took place at St Michael & All Angels Church, a place he held close to his heart.

A poignant tribute to Malcolm’s life and passions saw a Fordson Dexta tractor accompany the hearse from his home to the church. It was a fitting symbol of the practical skill and village spirit for which he was so well known.

Over 180 people attended the service, a clear reflection of the deep affection in which he was held. Afterwards, memories and laughter were shared at The Bertie Arms – a pub Malcolm greatly supported, alongside his loyal involvement with the church.

Malcolm will be remembered for his kindness, his genuine interest in others, and his ever-helpful nature. Whether it was a word of encouragement or help with a tricky repair, his presence touched many lives. His family have expressed their heartfelt thanks for the kind thoughts, prayers, and messages of sympathy received during this difficult time.

Donations in Malcolm’s memory were collected for the British Heart Foundation and St Michael & All Angels Church – causes close to the family’s hearts.

It is hoped that the many stories of Malcolm’s good humour, generosity, and tireless willingness to lend a hand will continue to be shared across the village for years to come.
