What a weekend

Two days of (mostly) glorious weather, scarecrows in every conceivable pose, more dogs than a polite estimate could manage, and a Bank Holiday Monday that broke our all-time visitor record. We’re still picking up the bunting and we already know: the 2026 Uffington Scarecrow Festival was one for the books.

Numbers were up on last year across both days, and Monday alone set a new record by some margin. We did Sir David proud.

To our visitors

Thank you. Thank you for travelling from down the road, across the county and from much further afield. Thank you for cheerfully paying your fiver, doing the quiz trail with the kids in tow, queuing patiently at the BBQ, cheering on the Dog Show, and turning what is – let’s be honest – a small Lincolnshire village into the busiest, friendliest place for miles around.

You’re the reason we do this. Every car that came through the gate, every excited dog – you made the weekend.

To our volunteers

This festival simply couldn’t happen without you.

To everyone who built, painted, dressed and propped up a scarecrow; who marshalled cars, ran a stall, manned the gates, judged the dogs, baked a cake, poured the tea, served sandwiches, played in the band, took a turn behind the BBQ, sold a raffle ticket, opened up the church, walked the trail with a clipboard, wrangled the alpacas, kept the steam train running, or simply turned up at silly o’clock to set out the hay bales – thank you.

You gave up a Bank Holiday weekend so that thousands of other people could enjoy theirs. That’s an extraordinary thing, and the village is the better for it.

Our sponsors made it possible to keep entry at £5 a car for another year – a price that has barely budged in around 15 years. To every business that backed us in 2026: thank you for believing in a community-run village event and putting your name to it. We hope the weekend was as good for you as it was for us.

And to Sir David

The theme set the bar high – Our Planet & the Natural World, in honour of Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday on 8 May. The village rose to it. The scarecrows were inventive, witty, occasionally moving and almost always recyclable. Here’s hoping the man himself would approve.

The next Uffington Scarecrow Festival will run on the Sunday and Monday of the May Bank Holiday weekend, 2027. The theme will be revealed in due course – follow us on Facebook and Instagram to be the first to know.
