Sing Your Heart Out: A Hymn for Every Heartbeat

26 February 2024 | News

In the spirit of this year’s Scarecrow Festival theme, “A Celebration of the BBC,” and with a harmonious nod to “Songs of Praise,” we’re embarking on a melodious mission to unite our voices in song. Imagine Uffington filled not just with the sight of ingenious BBC-themed scarecrows but also with the sound of our community’s favourite hymns, a true symphony of celebration and fellowship.

We’re inviting YOU to share your favourite hymn with us. Whether it’s a song that uplifts your spirit, brings comfort, or simply holds a special place in your heart, we want to hear about it. By contributing your hymn of choice, you’re not just participating in a survey; you’re helping to curate a soundtrack that reflects the diverse tapestry of faith, hope, and joy that binds our community together.

Here’s how it’s going to work: Attached to this article, you’ll find a survey link where you can post your favourite hymn. Dive into those memories and tell us about the hymns featured at important moments in your life and share them with us. We’ll be collecting your suggestions up until the 22nd of March, creating a list that represents our collective voice and spirit.

But it doesn’t stop there! From the 22nd of March onwards, we’ll be asking you to vote for your favourites from a shortlist of hymns to create our very own Top of the Pops of music that moves and unites us! This list, shaped by your choices and stories, will then come to life during the Scarecrow Festival, as we come together to sing and hear hymns, organists and soloists to accompany the scarecrows that will adorn the village.

It’s a chance to celebrate our creativity, individual journeys and our collective heritage, all within the context of this year’s homage to the BBC and “Songs of Praise.”
